The trainees, specializing in Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, concluded their training with a presentation and defense of their final projects before the refinery’s management over the weekend.
As Batch 10 of the programme, they join hundreds of graduate engineers previously trained and employed by the Lagos-based refinery. Notably, the Graduate Engineer Training Programme began even before the refinery’s completion.
The engineers presented their projects in groups, facing thorough questioning from management on their learnings and proposed innovations for the refinery.
Management Encourages Innovation Over Maintenance
Dr. Ebele Oputa, Programme Coordinator and AGM of Human Asset Management, revealed that the engineers underwent two years of hands-on training in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering.
The programme bridges theory and practical skills, fostering leadership development. Dr. Oputa noted:
“Leadership skills can be honed, allowing all trainees to excel in leadership roles over time.”
