The Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP) is a landmark national initiative launched by the Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). It is a highly specialized, 6-month fast-track certification program designed to bridge the pedagogical gap for roughly 250,000 serving, unqualified educators across Nigeria.

Description:

Teacher professionalisation is a key component of Education Quality Assurance under Pillar 6 of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI).

Through the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP), teachers already serving in classrooms without formal professional education training can obtain recognised professional qualifications while continuing to serve their schools and communities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• For holders of a Bachelor’s degree in a non-education field
• For HND holders in a non-education field
• Minimum of 24 months classroom experience required

Professional Diploma in Education (PDE)

• For holders of NCE or OND qualifications in non-education fields
• Minimum of 24 months classroom experience required

Accelerated Teacher Professional Pathway (ATPP) Requirement:

The programme is designed for:

• Non-education Bachelor’s degree holders currently teaching
• HND holders in non-education fields currently teaching
• NCE/OND holders in non-education fields currently teaching
• Community instructors and volunteer educators
• Educators in public and non-state schools
• Instructors in TVET institutions
• Facilitators in non-formal and alternative learning settings

How the ATPP Programme Works:

01. Apply

Submit your application to join the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway.

02. Blended Study

Participate in contact sessions at study centres alongside learning through the ATPP Learning Management System (LMS).

03. Certification

Complete the programme and obtain a PGDE or PDE from an accredited ATPP institution.

04. TRCN Registration

Sit and pass the TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), after which eligible candidates can proceed with TRCN registration under the appropriate category.
