Job Description:

• Working with the open source community and Canonical customers to research new features and improvements
• Collaborating with product managers and engineers to shape the future of Canonical products
• Engaging with the design team to keep our efforts aligned with product strategy and best practices
• Working to evolve and evangelise design systems that drive consistency and efficiency
• Understanding the broader scope of your work and its numerous interconnected constraints
• Supporting one of our working groups to enable Canonical design’s horizontal efforts

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
• Bachelor’s or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or STEM or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
• Knowledge and passion for user experience, technology and design
• Commitment to continuous learning and improvement – curious, flexible, scientific
• Result-oriented with a drive to finish work and celebrate success
• Confidence in user research practices
• Engagement with the latest design research and innovation
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long.

The role entails

• Crafting exceptional, API-first Python code with unit tests, that delivering robust, well-structured systems that scale.
• Diagnosing and resolving complex technical challenges, implementing high-quality fixes that enhance performance and reliability.
• Mentoring and uplifting fellow engineers, leading code reviews that reinforce best practices and elevate team excellence.
• Enjoying the freedom of remote work while staying globally engaged. Travelling internationally 2 to 4 times a year to collaborate in key internal discussions and industry-leading external events—expanding your network, sharing expertise, and shaping innovation on a global stage.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• You have a Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
