The Rivers State Government approved the recruitment of 5,000 new teachers into the state civil service to address manpower gaps and improve the quality of education across public schools. Under the direction of Governor Fubara, the recruitment is divided to deploy 3,000 teachers to basic and primary schools and 2,000 teachers to post-primary institutions.
This exercise, which is strictly merit-based, is part of a broader commitment to human capital development that has seen nearly 9,500 people employed across the health and education sectors since the start of the current administration.
Teachers employed by the Rivers State Government enjoy a competitive welfare package, including the implementation of the ₦85,000 minimum wage, which was extended to teachers in public primary and secondary schools in mid-2025. Standard benefits include regular and timely salary payments, an annual 13th-month bonus, and a harmonised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service.
