Shift Manager, Production

Description:

Safety, Health & Environment (HSE)

• Champion a zero-harm culture by ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, Environmental, and Food Safety standards.
• Lead safety performance management within the assigned shift.
• Ensure incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are promptly reported, investigated, and addressed through appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

Quality & Food Safety

• Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and company quality standards.
• Drive Right-First-Time production while minimizing quality defects, rework, and waste.
• Implement initiatives to reduce consumer complaints and non-conformances.
• Promote compliance with food safety procedures and quality requirements throughout production operations.

Production Performance & Delivery

• Lead production activities during the assigned shift to achieve production targets, service levels, and business objectives.
• Monitor and improve key operational performance indicators, including Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), throughput, waste, yield, labour productivity, and downtime.
• Ensure production plans are executed efficiently to meet customer demand and delivery requirements.
• Identify production risks, address operational challenges, and implement recovery plans when performance deviates from established targets.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.

People Leadership & Capability Development

• Conduct shift briefings, performance reviews, and daily production meetings to communicate priorities and align team activities.
• Ensure effective manpower planning and deployment to meet operational requirements.
• Drive employee engagement, discipline, accountability, and teamwork.
• Develop employee capabilities through coaching, guidance, and continuous performance improvement.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and high performance within the production team.

Cost Management & Operational Excellence

• Drive loss elimination initiatives across safety, quality, cost, delivery, and productivity.
• Ensure production targets are achieved within approved cost parameters.
• Monitor and control material consumption, waste, labour costs, and utility usage.
• Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, process optimization, and improved resource utilization.
• Promote continuous improvement through effective manufacturing practices and operational performance management.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Planning, Warehouse, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and other relevant functions to ensure smooth production operations.
• Coordinate cross-functional activities to resolve production challenges and improve operational performance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum of HND / B.Sc. / BTech in Engineering, Food Science, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
• Professional certifications in Manufacturing Excellence, Lean, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Six Sigma, or Project Management are an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum of 5–7 years’ manufacturing experience within the FMCG, food, beverage, or consumer goods manufacturing industry.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ leadership experience managing multiple production lines and shift teams.
• Demonstrated experience in TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence.

Core Skills & Competencies

• Strong manufacturing and production management expertise.
• Excellent leadership and people development capabilities.
• Sound knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems and quality standards.
• Strong financial awareness and cost management skills.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Advanced analytical and performance management skills.
• Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications

Professional Accreditation

• Membership of relevant Engineering, Manufacturing, or Food Science professional institutions is desirable.
• Certifications in Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, Food Safety, or Operational Excellence are advantageous.
