The induction ceremony, held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was confirmed in a statement by NLNG’s Manager, Corporate Communication and Public Affairs, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku. The programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills and business knowledge for sustainable economic growth.
Under the scheme, the newly inducted trainees will undergo structured capacity-building sessions, followed by a competitive pitching phase where the most viable business ideas will be selected based on defined evaluation criteria.
At the same time, 26 beneficiaries from the previous cohort graduated after completing their training and receiving grant support. One year after the intervention, many of the graduates have expanded their businesses, improved financial management, and transitioned into more structured, revenue-generating enterprises. Some have also scaled production and diversified their services, reflecting measurable growth.
Speaking at the event, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, said the VIBES programme reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development in its host communities. She noted that the initiative focuses on strengthening local economies through targeted training, innovation support, and enterprise development opportunities.

Horsfall added that the programme aligns with NLNG’s broader development strategy, aimed at building entrepreneurial capacity and supporting emerging business leaders to thrive within their communities. She emphasised that the transition from one cohort to another highlights the company’s sustained investment in youth empowerment and inclusive growth.
Also speaking, the Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Yemi Adeyemi, described the progress of the graduating cohort as encouraging. He explained that beyond training, beneficiaries received grants to support their businesses, leading to visible improvements in operations and business confidence.
The VIBES programme provides participants with training in financial management, marketing, business strategy, and basic legal principles, alongside mentorship from experienced professionals. It forms part of NLNG’s wider efforts in economic empowerment, complementing its interventions in education, healthcare, and infrastructure across host and pipeline communities in Rivers State.
